Suzuki Motor Corporation and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. have announced the creation of the Osamu Suzuki Centre of Excellence (OSCOE) in India, named in honor of the late Osamu Suzuki, former chairman of Suzuki Motor Corporation. The center will be located in Gujarat and Haryana and aims to support India’s goal of high manufacturing growth.

Focus Areas of OSCOE
The OSCOE will primarily focus on improving the standards of component manufacturers across tier-1, 2, and 3, aiming to make India’s supply chains globally competitive. It will also work on building infrastructure and developing programs in collaboration with academic institutions and other organizations. These programs will focus on propagating Japanese manufacturing philosophy.
Expanding Beyond the Automotive Sector
While the center will focus on the automotive sector, its initiatives will extend beyond this field. The program will include formal teachings, seminars, and discussions to promote efficient manufacturing practices across industries.
A Tribute to Osamu Suzuki
The announcement was made at a remembrance event held in Delhi at Yashobhoomi in December 2024, commemorating the life of Osamu Suzuki, who passed away on December 25, 2024. Osamu Suzuki is recognized for introducing Japanese manufacturing principles to India, making car ownership accessible to the common man and turning India into a major global car producer.
Osamu Suzuki’s Legacy
Osamu Suzuki played a pivotal role in the success of Maruti Suzuki and the growth of India’s automobile component industry. He was awarded India’s second-highest civilian honor, the Padma Vibhushan, posthumously in 2025. His vision and philosophy of competitive manufacturing have had a lasting impact on India’s automotive industry.
The Osamu Suzuki Centre of Excellence will honor his legacy by fostering the growth of high-quality manufacturing in India, not just in the automotive sector, but across all industries, ensuring India’s continued position as a leader in global manufacturing.
