Infosys has ended the employment of 240 trainees who were unable to clear the company’s internal ‘Generic Foundation Training Program’. The decision, communicated through internal emails on April 18, followed three unsuccessful attempts by the trainees, despite extra preparation time, doubt-clearing sessions, and mock assessments.

Support Initiatives for Affected Trainees
To ease the impact, Infosys has announced support measures. Trainees can access free upskilling courses through partnerships with NIIT and UpGrad. These programs are designed to prepare them for roles in the BPM industry or help them improve their IT fundamentals. Similar support was extended to those who were laid off in February 2025.
Earlier Terminations and Trainee Protests
In February 2025, Infosys had terminated over 300 trainees at its Mysuru campus after they failed the same assessment. That batch represented around half of those onboarded in October 2024. Following the layoffs, more than 100 impacted individuals reached out to the Prime Minister’s Office, seeking intervention and requesting safeguards to prevent such situations in the future.
External Opportunities and Reapplication Option
The company is also offering outplacement services to help affected individuals find new jobs. Trainees can opt for Infosys-sponsored training focused on either BPM roles or IT skills. After successful completion, they may reapply for roles at Infosys BPM.
Financial and Logistical Support
Infosys has announced a financial package that includes one month’s pay as ex-gratia, a relieving letter, and travel allowance. The company will also provide accommodation at its Mysore campus and cover travel to either Bengaluru or the trainees’ hometowns. Counselling services are also being made available.
Details of the Training Options Offered
- BPM Track: A 12-week external training course to prepare candidates for BPM industry roles.
- IT Track: A 24-week training program focusing on IT fundamentals for those pursuing tech roles.
Delayed Onboarding and Macroeconomic Challenges
Many of the terminated trainees had been waiting over two years to be onboarded due to hiring delays caused by a macroeconomic slowdown. They were originally recruited for roles such as System Engineers and Digital Specialist Engineers. About 730 trainees from the October 2024 batch took their final assessment on April 17, with more results expected soon.Infosys’ Fourth Quarter Performance
The layoffs coincided with Infosys’ Q4 FY25 earnings report released on April 17, which showed an 11.7% year-on-year drop in net profit to ₹7,033 crore.
