Viral Tatkal Timing Update is Fake

A viral post circulating on social media recently claimed that Indian Railways had changed the timings for Tatkal ticket bookings. The post, shared by a user on platform X, included an image comparing the old and new booking timings for different ticket categories, along with a caption stating, “Indian Railways changed the time of Tatkal ticket booking. Effective from 15 April.”

Fact Check Reveals No Changes

To verify this claim, Channeliam’s Fact Check team conducted an investigation, checking multiple official sources, including the verified Indian Railways accounts. It was confirmed that there were no updates or announcements regarding any change in the Tatkal ticket booking timings. In fact, a post by the official IRCTC handle on platform X clearly refuted the viral claim, stating that no such changes had been made.

IRCTC’s Official Statement

IRCTC responded to the viral post by saying, “Some posts are circulating on Social Media channels mentioning different timings for Tatkal and Premium Tatkal tickets. No such change in timings is currently proposed for either AC or Non-AC classes. The permitted booking timings for agents also remain unchanged.”

False Claim Lacks Basis

Channeliam’s fact-check confirmed that the viral claim about altered Tatkal booking timings is entirely false. No updates from Indian Railways or IRCTC support the claim, and users are advised to be cautious and avoid spreading such misleading information.
