Amazon is gearing up to launch the first 27 satellites for its Project Kuiper internet network on April 9, 2025. The mission, named “Kuiper Atlas 1,” will lift off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station aboard an Atlas 5 rocket, part of a launch deal with United Launch Alliance (ULA).

Project Kuiper aims to create a 3,000+ satellite constellation in low-Earth orbit, providing global high-speed internet and competing with SpaceX’s Starlink. Amazon has invested $10 billion into the project and is leveraging its web services expertise to gain an edge in the satellite internet market.

Although SpaceX has already launched around 8,000 Starlink satellites and gained millions of users worldwide, Amazon believes its consumer product experience and large-scale manufacturing will help attract Kuiper customers. In 2022, Amazon secured the biggest rocket launch deal in history, booking 83 launches from ULA, Arianespace, and Blue Origin to deploy its satellite network.
Amazon previously launched two prototype satellites in 2023, calling the tests successful. The upcoming mission will mark the first deployment of its final satellite design, with Amazon prepared for continuous launches in the coming years.
