In a significant political move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appointed Rajeev Chandrasekhar as its Kerala state president. The former Union Minister, who previously contested against Shashi Tharoor in the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha elections, took charge on March 25, 2025. He emphasized his mission to bring transformative change to the state.

Decline in Movable Assets
As per his April 2024 election affidavit, Chandrasekhar’s movable assets are valued at ₹9.25 crore, marking a 66% decline from ₹27.98 crore in 2018. His financial holdings include:
- Cash in hand
- Bank deposits in financial institutions and cooperative societies
- Investments in bonds, shares, and mutual funds
This steep drop suggests a shift in financial priorities over the years.

Immovable Assets and Overall Wealth
Despite the decline in movable wealth, his immovable assets are worth ₹14.4 crore, bringing his total declared assets to approximately ₹23.65 crore. His real estate holdings remain a significant part of his wealth.
Plummeting Income Over the Years
Chandrasekhar’s income tax records show a sharp decline in earnings. In 2018, his reported income stood at ₹28 crore, but by 2024, it had dropped to ₹5.5 lakh.

Spouse’s Rising Income
While his income fell, his spouse’s earnings rose significantly, from ₹21.44 lakh in 2018 to ₹1.32 crore in 2024.
What’s Behind the Wealth Shift?
The decline in his movable assets and personal income suggests possible reallocation of investments or shifts in business operations. However, with his new role as BJP’s Kerala president, Chandrasekhar continues to be a key figure in both politics and business.
