The anticipation surrounding Malayalam cinema continues to grow, extending well beyond Kerala. In a unique gesture, Good Shepherd College in Bengaluru has declared a holiday on March 27, allowing students to watch the highly awaited Mohanlal-starrer Empuraan on its release day.

A Tribute to Mohanlal
The college management made the announcement in a playful statement, declaring, “Lights, Camera, Holiday!” The decision is attributed to the institution’s chairman, who is a dedicated admirer of Mohanlal. To make the occasion even more special, the college has gone a step further by organizing an exclusive screening for students.
Special Screening for Students

A 7 a.m. show at Movietime Cinemas, YGR Mall in Rajarajeshwari Nagar has been booked, with free tickets provided to students. The institution expressed its enthusiasm on social media, stating, “When passion and fandom unite, history is made! Our beloved MD, a devoted fan of Lalettan, has arranged this screening as a tribute to Mohanlal’s brilliance and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s visionary direction.”
Fan-Fueled Celebrations in Cinema
This is not the first time a major film release has prompted institutions or companies to grant time off. Similar celebrations occurred during the release of Rajinikanth’s Jailer in 2023, when several firms in Chennai and Bengaluru allowed employees a break to watch the film, even providing complimentary tickets.

Likewise, in 2016, Kabali sparked a frenzy among Rajinikanth fans, leading to holidays in many colleges across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Some institutions even arranged special screenings, turning the film’s release into a grand celebration.
With Empuraan set to hit screens soon, the enthusiasm surrounding the movie underscores the massive influence of Malayalam cinema and the legendary status of Mohanlal.
