US aircraft manufacturer Boeing has laid off up to 180 employees at its Boeing India Engineering Technology Center (BIETC) in Bengaluru. The job cuts are part of a broader global workforce reduction, a source confirmed.

Boeing, which employs around 7,000 people in India, is facing various challenges worldwide. The layoffs occurred during the December 2024 quarter, as the company continues efforts to streamline its operations.

Boeing’s Global Workforce Reduction

Last year, Boeing announced plans to reduce its global workforce by 10%. The layoffs in India have been relatively measured, ensuring minimal impact on customer service, safety, and quality standards, according to sources.

Strategic Adjustments and New Roles

While certain positions have been eliminated, Boeing has also created new roles to align with its strategic goals. The company has not issued an official statement regarding the layoffs.

A source emphasized that these adjustments were made carefully to avoid disruptions to customer and government operations.

Boeing’s Presence in India

Boeing’s engineering and technology center in Bengaluru and Chennai plays a crucial role in advanced aerospace projects. The Bengaluru campus is one of Boeing’s largest investments outside the US.

Additionally, Boeing sources approximately $1.25 billion worth of products and services annually from over 300 Indian suppliers, highlighting India’s importance in its global supply chain.
