The iconic quiz-based game show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) is set to complete 25 years on July 3, 2025. Hosted by Amitabh Bachchan for nearly its entire run, except for the third season in 2007, which was hosted by Shah Rukh Khan, the show remains one of India’s most popular television programs.

Currently, Bachchan is hosting KBC 16, which premiered on August 12 and has been airing on Sony Entertainment Television and SonyLIV for the past seven months, surpassing 150 episodes.
Is KBC 16 Bachchan’s Last Season?
Reports suggest that KBC 16 may be Amitabh Bachchan’s final season as host. The 82-year-old legend gave an emotional farewell during the final episode of KBC 15, even requesting the channel to find his replacement. However, when a suitable successor wasn’t found, Bachchan continued hosting KBC 16. With the ongoing season being the show’s longest yet, speculation is strong that the next season will feature a new host.
Who Will Be the Next Host of KBC?
A recent research study conducted by the Indian Institute of Human Brands (IIHB) and Rediffusion’s Red Lab surveyed 768 respondents (408 men and 360 women) across India’s Hindi-speaking regions to identify the audience’s preferred successor to Amitabh Bachchan.

According to the survey:
- Shah Rukh Khan emerged as the top choice with 63% votes.
- Aishwarya Rai Bachchan came in second with 51% votes.
- MS Dhoni (37%), Harsha Bhogle (32%), and Anil Kapoor (15%) were also among the preferred choices.
- Interestingly, 42% of respondents felt that Bachchan should continue as host for as long as possible.
- Other suggested names included Aamir Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Shashi Tharoor, and Chetan Bhagat.
Will Bachchan Bid Farewell?
While there is no official confirmation yet on whether KBC 16 will be Amitabh Bachchan’s final season, all eyes are on the show’s finale. It remains to be seen whether the legendary host will continue or if a new face will take over one of India’s most beloved game shows.
