Assam is collaborating with ISRO to launch a geostationary satellite worth ₹450-500 crore. The satellite aims to monitor illegal infiltration, provide early flood warnings, and support farmers with weather updates. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the initiative after allocating funds in the 2025-26 budget.

Expanding Digital and Tech Initiatives
The budget also includes:
- AI-Powered Anti-Deepfake Lab – A cybersecurity initiative to combat misinformation.
- Bamboo Smart City – A sustainable urban project utilizing bamboo-based infrastructure.
- Green Packaging Hub – A push for eco-friendly industrial development.
- AI & Blockchain-Powered Tea Auction – Enhancing efficiency in Assam’s tea trade.
- State-Owned OTT Platform – Promoting Assamese cinema, literature, and folk music.
Need for a Dedicated Satellite
CM Sarma cited a coal mine accident in Umrangso, where satellite data took 45 days to access. A state-owned satellite would ensure real-time surveillance and better response to such incidents.
Socio-Economic Impact
State Finance Minister Ajanta Neog highlighted that “ASSAMSAT” will facilitate critical socio-economic projects, including agriculture, disaster management, infrastructure, and border security. The project reflects Assam’s vision for technological advancement and self-reliance.
