Instagram, owned by Meta, is exploring the launch of a separate app for Reels, its short-form video feature. The move comes as TikTok faces an uncertain future in the United States.

Instagram Chief Confirms Plans

According to reports, Instagram head Adam Mosseri recently discussed the idea with employees. The goal is to offer users a similar video-scrolling experience while capitalizing on TikTok’s potential challenges.

Meta’s Strategy in the Video Market

Meta has been actively expanding its video capabilities. In January, the company introduced a new video-editing app, Edits, which competes with CapCut, a popular app owned by TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance.

A Second Attempt at a Video App

Meta previously launched a standalone video-sharing app, Lasso, in 2018 to compete with TikTok. However, it failed to attract users and was eventually discontinued.

With the rise of short-form video content, Meta is making another attempt to strengthen its position in the market.
