Rohan Murthy is a prominent entrepreneur in the technology sector, having carved his own niche through his work in digital transformation and AI-driven automation. As the son of Infosys founder Narayana Murthy and Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty, Rohan’s background is deeply rooted in business and academia, which has influenced his career trajectory.

Early Life and Education

Rohan Murthy grew up in Bangalore, where he attended Bishop Cotton Boys’ School. After completing his high school education, he moved to the United States to further his studies. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Cornell University in 2005. Rohan then pursued a PhD in Computer Engineering from Harvard University, completing it in 2011. During his doctoral research, Rohan received support from prestigious fellowships, including the Siebel Scholars Fellowship and the Microsoft Research Fellowship.

Family Background and Personal Life

Rohan Murthy comes from a well-established family. His mother, Sudha Murty, is a respected author and a Member of Parliament, while his father, Narayana Murthy, is the founder of Infosys, one of India’s largest and most successful IT companies. Additionally, Rohan’s maternal uncle, Shrinivas Kulkarni, a renowned astrophysicist and professor at Caltech, has also been a major influence on his career. Rohan has an older sister, Akshata Murty, who is married to former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Rohan’s personal life has seen a few changes. He was briefly married to Lakshmi Venu, daughter of TVS Motors chairman Venu Srinivasan, but the couple separated in 2013 and divorced in 2015. In 2019, Rohan married Aparna Krishnan, daughter of former Indian Navy officer K.R. Krishnan.

Entrepreneurial Ventures and Soroco

Rohan Murthy’s entrepreneurial journey took a significant step in 2014 when he co-founded Soroco, a company focused on AI-driven automation and digital transformation. As the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Soroco, Rohan has been instrumental in leading the company’s technological advancements. Although Soroco does not publicly disclose its revenue, estimates for 2022 suggest the company achieved $18 million (approximately Rs 150 crore) in top-line revenue.

Soroco’s growth highlights Rohan’s ability to carve out a successful business path, separate from his family’s legacy with Infosys. The company’s focus on AI and automation places it at the forefront of technological innovation, allowing businesses to drive efficiency and transformation.

Rohan Murthy’s Inheritance and Wealth

As the son of Narayana Murthy, Rohan inherited a stake in Infosys. He holds around 6,08,12,892 shares, which amounts to 1.67% of the company, and has reportedly earned significant dividends, with Rs 106.42 crore received in the past. Despite this inheritance, Rohan’s primary focus has been his entrepreneurial ventures, particularly Soroco, which has allowed him to build his reputation as a tech innovator.

Looking Ahead

Rohan Murthy’s career is a testament to his ability to innovate and lead in the technology industry. From his academic achievements to his success in entrepreneurship, Rohan continues to shape his path, building a legacy of his own while carrying forward his family’s influence in the tech world. As Soroco grows, Rohan’s impact in the realm of AI-driven automation is sure to continue, positioning him as a key player in shaping the future of digital transformation.
