Traveling by train is an exciting experience, especially on long journeys where hawkers board at various stations to sell snacks, adding to the lively atmosphere. In addition to these local offerings, Indian Railways provides meals for passengers, giving them a variety of options. However, there’s one unique train that offers only vegetarian meals throughout the journey.

The Vande Bharat Express, running from Delhi to Katra in Jammu and Kashmir, is India’s first fully vegetarian train. Unlike other trains where passengers can enjoy a variety of meal options, the Vande Bharat Express sticks strictly to vegetarian food. Passengers are only offered vegetarian meals with no meat or eggs on the menu.

To preserve the vegetarian-only environment, passengers are not allowed to bring non-vegetarian food or snacks on board. The train’s kitchens use only vegetarian ingredients, and the staff is also required to refrain from handling any non-vegetarian food during the journey.

This initiative is a first for Indian Railways, providing a unique travel experience that aligns with India’s diverse culinary traditions and preferences. With the Vande Bharat Express, passengers can enjoy a completely vegetarian journey, from meals to snacks, ensuring a fully plant-based experience from start to finish.
