Volvo Group, a global leader in trucks, buses, construction equipment, and sustainable mobility solutions, has announced a significant expansion of its manufacturing operations in Karnataka. The company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Karnataka Government to establish its 4th international manufacturing hub in Hosakote, Bengaluru. This strategic investment of Rs 1,400 crore marks a major step in strengthening Volvo’s presence in India.

Job Creation and Production Growth
The new facility is expected to generate over 2,000 direct jobs, providing a substantial boost to the local economy. Production capacity at the Hosakote plant will rise from 3,000 to 20,000 trucks and buses annually, catering to both domestic and international markets. This expansion will not only contribute to job creation but also help Volvo meet growing demands in India and abroad.
Karnataka’s Long-Standing Partnership with Volvo
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah praised the long-standing partnership between the state and Volvo, which has lasted for 25 years. He acknowledged the company’s contributions, particularly in the luxury bus segment, and emphasized the state’s commitment to supporting Volvo’s operations. The government’s focus on fostering local job creation and promoting economic growth aligns with the company’s expansion plans.
A Key Node in Volvo’s Global Operations
Volvo Group CEO Martin Lundstedt emphasized the significance of the Hosakote facility in the company’s global operations. He noted that this expansion will secure India and Karnataka’s place in the global supply chain, enabling the production of up to 20,000 buses and trucks per year. Lundstedt highlighted that the new hub will not only meet local market demands but also contribute significantly to job creation and the company’s broader growth strategy.

Volvo’s Growing Presence in Bengaluru
The Hosakote facility will join Volvo’s existing manufacturing units in Peenya, Hosakote, and Dharwad. In addition, the Bengaluru region hosts Volvo’s Global Competence Centre (GCC), which employs over 3,500 people in areas such as R&D, IT, procurement, logistics, and finance. With annual revenues surpassing $50 billion, Volvo’s commitment to Karnataka and its expanding footprint in India are key elements of its strategy to capitalize on the fast-growing Indian market.
Key Stakeholders in the Expansion
The meeting also included significant participation from Karnataka officials, such as LK Atheeq, additional secretary to the chief minister, and Gunjan Krishna, IAS, commissioner for industrial development, highlighting the collaborative efforts in supporting the company’s expansion.
Volvo’s new investment in Karnataka marks a milestone in the company’s long-term growth plans and strengthens its position in both the Indian and global markets.
