India, sharing borders with seven nations, offers unique opportunities for cross-border train travel. Let’s explore five railway stations that serve as gateways to neighboring countries, fostering cultural and economic ties.

1. Haldibari Railway Station

Located 4.5 km from the Bangladesh border in West Bengal, Haldibari links India with Bangladesh via Chilhati Station. Operational since December 2020, it facilitates the Mitali Express, which runs between New Jalpaiguri Junction and Dhaka, making international travel smooth and scenic.

2. Jaynagar Railway Station

Jaynagar in Bihar’s Madhubani district connects to Kurtha Station in Nepal’s Janakpur. Just 4 km from the India-Nepal border, it simplifies travel without the need for passports or visas, enhancing cross-border convenience.

3. Singhabad Railway Station

Situated in West Bengal’s Malda district, Singhabad focuses on freight transit to Bangladesh’s Rohanpur Station and Nepal. Though passenger services are limited, its significance for trade and economic activities is vital.

4. Petrapole Railway Station

West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district hosts Petrapole, India’s busiest border station. Starting point for the Bandhan Express to Khulna, Bangladesh, it caters to both passengers and freight. Travelers must carry valid passports and visas to use this route.

5. Radhikapur Railway Station

Located in West Bengal’s Uttar Dinajpur district, Radhikapur connects to Biral Station in Bangladesh. As a key freight route linking Assam and Bihar to Bangladesh, it strengthens economic ties and supports bilateral trade.

These railway stations not only connect countries but also build bridges of culture, trade, and travel between India and its neighbors.
