Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated India’s largest solar cell and module manufacturing unit at the Gangaikondan SIPCOT Industrial Growth Centre. Set up by Tata Power’s TP Solar Limited, the 4.30-GW facility was built with an investment of ₹3,800 crore and will generate employment for over 2,000 people, including 1,700 women from nearby areas.

Advanced Technology for High-Efficiency Solar Modules

The facility will produce photovoltaic cells and modules with an annual capacity of 4 GW. Equipped with advanced robotic automation, it aims to enhance efficiency and reliability in solar plants and rooftop projects for residential, commercial, and industrial use. The unit also incorporates ultra-modern TOPCon and Mono Perc technology, enabling in-house production of raw materials for module manufacturing.

Tamil Nadu Strengthens Solar Manufacturing

During the event, Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekar expressed gratitude to the Tamil Nadu government for supporting employment initiatives, particularly for women. Tata Power MD and CEO Praveer Sinha highlighted the swift completion of the factory within two years.

Additionally, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for Vikram Solar’s 3-GW solar cell and 6-GW module facility, which involves an investment of ₹2,574 crore and is expected to provide jobs for over 2,000 people.

Land Acquired for Expanding Solar Industry

To accommodate these large-scale solar manufacturing projects, the district administration swiftly acquired additional land, ensuring the companies had adequate space to establish their operations.

With these developments, Tamil Nadu is solidifying its position as a key hub for solar energy manufacturing in India.
