Sridhar Vembu, the founder of Zoho, one of India’s most successful privately owned technology companies, has cleared the air regarding rumors that he might enter politics. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Vembu laughed off the speculation, stating that he had never considered joining politics and that he is focused entirely on his work at Zoho.

Vembu Steps Down as CEO to Focus on R&D

Earlier this week, Vembu announced his decision to step down as the CEO of Zoho and assume the role of Chief Scientist. In this new role, he will focus on leading research and development (R&D), particularly in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). Vembu emphasized that his new position in deep tech R&D is extremely challenging and leaves him with no time or interest in politics.

No Plans for Politics, Vembu Clarifies

Vembu strongly denied any discussions about entering politics, saying, “I have had zero discussions with anyone about me joining politics.” He further clarified that his full attention would remain on Zoho’s R&D and his personal mission for rural development. Vembu will be traveling to Austin, Texas, next week to present Zoho’s AI strategy to industry analysts.

Leadership Transitions at Zoho

With Vembu stepping down as CEO, Zoho’s co-founder Shailesh Kumar Davey will take over as the new group CEO. Other leadership changes within Zoho were also announced, with Tony Thomas leading Zoho US, Rajesh Ganesan heading Zoho Corp’s ManageEngine division, and Mani Vembu taking charge of the Zoho.com division.

Controversy Over Support for Cow Urine Claims

Earlier this month, Vembu faced backlash for his support of IIT Madras director V. Kamakoti’s claims regarding the supposed benefits of cow urine. Vembu argued that modern science is just beginning to recognize the advantages of cow urine, which traditional wisdom has long acknowledged.

Zoho’s Legacy and Growth

Founded in 1996 as AdventNet Inc., Zoho Corporation, headquartered in Chennai, has grown into a major player in the tech industry. The company, which initially focused on networking software, now offers a wide range of cloud-based services and continues to thrive as one of India’s most successful privately owned tech companies.
