The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, a major infrastructure project, spans 212 km and is being developed at a cost of ₹12,000 crore. It will significantly cut travel time between Delhi and Dehradun, reducing it from 6 hours to just 2.5 hours. The expressway will pass through Baghpat, Shamli, and Saharanpur, connecting Delhi to Dehradun, with the final 20 km running through the eco-sensitive Raja Ji National Park. This section will feature Asia’s longest 12-km elevated wildlife corridor, complete with animal and elephant underpasses to protect wildlife.

Key Features

  • Route and Structure: The expressway starts near Akshardham in Delhi, passing through major towns and connecting to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway (DME).
  • Cost and Timeline: Built at ₹12,000 crore, it is expected to open by January 2025, a month later than initially planned.
  • Travel Time: The expressway will cut the Delhi-Dehradun travel time by more than half, from 6 hours to 2.5 hours.
  • Eco-friendly Design: The project includes special provisions for wildlife, with 6 animal underpasses and 2 elephant underpasses.
  • Infrastructure: The expressway will include 113 vehicular underpasses, 5 railway overbridges, 4 major bridges, and 62 bus shelters.

Benefits

The expressway promises a faster, safer, and seamless travel experience for commuters between Delhi, Dehradun, and surrounding regions. The improved connectivity will reduce congestion and offer a smoother journey for passengers.
