Zerodha CEO Nithin Kamath recently shared a remarkable water-saving success at their Bengaluru office, where the introduction of a smart urinal retrofit has reduced their water bill by 50%. The device, Zerodor by Ekam Eco Solutions, has been in use for the last six months, helping the company save a significant amount on water consumption.
Zerodor is a retrofit product that transforms traditional flushing urinals into waterless alternatives, effectively blocking out odors and conserving water. Kamath took to X to highlight the benefits, noting that the change had a huge impact on the company’s operational costs. He mentioned, “We’ve been using Zerodor for the men’s urinals at our offices for the last six months. Our water bills are down 50 percent, which was an unexpected but welcomed result.”
Ekam Eco Solutions, the maker of Zerodor, gained attention last year on Shark Tank India, where they pitched for Rs 1 crore in exchange for 3% equity. Although the deal with Lenskart CEO Peyush Bansal didn’t go through, Ekam Eco Solutions gained valuable recognition, eventually securing support from Kamath’s philanthropic initiative, Rainmatter.
Kamath emphasized the importance of water conservation, saying, “We liked the product because they are doing whatever is necessary to preserve water, which has become supercritical.”
Ekam Eco Solutions has since installed over 45,000 Zerodor units across India, claiming to have saved more than 3 billion liters of water so far. With the backing of Rainmatter, they plan to scale their efforts and continue providing sustainable solutions for businesses.
Ekam’s statement reflects their dedication to environmental conservation: “With Rainmatter’s support, we are excited to expand our reach and continue building solutions that help businesses achieve their sustainability goals while contributing to a healthier planet.”
