Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) has teamed up with Business Finland for the upcoming Polar Bear pitching event in India, marking the first time the event’s regional round will take place in the country. Known for its unique presentation style, the Polar Bear event challenges startup founders to pitch while standing in freezing cold water.
Agreement and Selection Process
KSUM will sign an agreement with Business Finland and Business Oulu Group, the event organizers, to select eight to ten startups from Kerala to participate. KSUM CEO Anoop Ambika emphasized that this collaboration highlights Kerala’s prominence in India’s startup ecosystem, bringing more global recognition to local startups.
Event Format in India
In India, the event will be held at the Finnish Embassy in Delhi, with the winners advancing to the final round in Oulu, Finland, in February. While the traditional event takes place on ice in Finland, participants in India will pitch while standing in cold water, without the use of neoprene or diving suits, ensuring the event stays true to its iconic nature.
Eligibility and Requirements
Startups wishing to participate must have at least one working model, be in the pre-seed or early stage, and have no significant funding yet. Additionally, founders must undergo medical checks and other preparations before entering the cold water. This event offers a rare opportunity for Kerala-based startups to gain global exposure and credibility in the international startup scene.
