In a significant move to enhance the spiritual journey of Indian Muslim pilgrims, Saudi Arabia and India have finalized the Haj agreement for 2025. This year, 1,75,025 pilgrims from India will undertake the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, the holiest city for Muslims.
The agreement was signed recently by India’s Minister of Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, and Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Tawfiq Bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah. The agreement defines the terms and conditions for Indian pilgrims, with the quota reflecting the strong bilateral relations between the two nations.
Welcoming the agreement, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his government’s commitment to improving the pilgrimage experience. “I welcome this agreement, which is wonderful news for Haj pilgrims from India. Our government is committed to ensuring improved pilgrimage experiences for the devotees,” said PM Modi in a statement.
Saudi Arabia echoed similar sentiments, expressing their honor in partnering with India to facilitate this sacred journey. Minister Tawfiq Al-Rabiah thanked PM Modi for his unwavering dedication to enhancing the pilgrimage. “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is honoured to strengthen this sacred partnership. Serving pilgrims from India and worldwide at the two holy mosques reflects our enduring commitment to enriching the spiritual journey of all Muslims,” he said.
