Air India has taken a significant step forward in enhancing passenger experience by introducing Wi-Fi services on both domestic and international flights. This development makes Air India the first Indian airline to offer in-flight connectivity on domestic routes, surpassing even global players like Elon Musk’s Starlink, which has yet to roll out similar services.
Wi-Fi Available on Select Air India Aircraft
Passengers can now access Wi-Fi on select Air India aircraft, including the Airbus A350, Boeing 789-9, and certain Airbus A321neo models. The service enables travelers to use social media and messaging apps, along with other internet-based activities, on their laptops, tablets, or smartphones. The Wi-Fi connection becomes available once the aircraft reaches an altitude of 10,000 feet and can support multiple devices simultaneously.
Free Wi-Fi After Successful Trials
The introduction of Wi-Fi follows a successful pilot program on international routes to cities like New York, London, Paris, and Singapore. For the time being, Air India is offering the service free of charge. The airline has plans to gradually expand Wi-Fi access to more aircraft within its fleet, ensuring more passengers can enjoy the benefit in the future.
Variability in Connectivity
While the new service is a major convenience for travelers, Air India has clarified that the quality of in-flight Wi-Fi may vary based on several factors. These include satellite coverage, bandwidth usage, flight routes, and government regulations, which could impact connectivity levels during a flight.
How to Connect to Air India Wi-Fi
Connecting to Air India’s Wi-Fi service is simple and user-friendly. Passengers need to turn on Wi-Fi on their device, select the “Air India Wi-Fi” network, and log in using their PNR number and last name on the portal. Once connected, passengers can enjoy internet access for the remainder of their flight.
This new initiative from Air India marks an important milestone in the airline’s commitment to improving the travel experience for its passengers.
