Kunal Shah, the founder of CRED and an angel investor, recently shared a thought-provoking perspective on entrepreneurship, emphasizing the importance of hands-on experience. He criticized the younger generation for consuming endless content without focusing on acquiring “real” knowledge. He compared entrepreneurship to swimming, stating, “You can’t learn swimming online.”
Shah’s Take on Knowledge-Based Content
As podcasts and knowledge-sharing content become increasingly popular, Shah pointed out that many aspiring entrepreneurs are spending too much time watching reality TV or listening to podcasts, rather than focusing on building or selling. He believes true learning only happens when you are actively involved in the field. In a LinkedIn post, Shah said, “I see aspiring entrepreneurs often wasting time consuming content, podcasts, reality TV instead of building or selling, where real learning happens.”
Support from Fellow Entrepreneurs
Shah’s view found support from several entrepreneurs. One commenter highlighted, “Entrepreneurship really is like swimming—you can’t just read about it, you have to dive in.” Another added, “Practical experience truly is the best teacher in entrepreneurship. Let’s focus on action and growth.” Others chimed in, saying, “We’re actually busy doing kitty parties” with a laugh, and “True that. Get out there and be a part of this game.”
These reactions underline the growing realization among entrepreneurs that practical experience far outweighs passive content consumption when it comes to building a successful business.
