Superfablab, under the Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM), is inviting applications for the prestigious Fab Academy 2025 course. In collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) Center for Bits and Atoms, this internationally recognized program provides an in-depth education in digital fabrication and rapid prototyping, following the renowned syllabus developed by the Fab Foundation.
A Comprehensive Course in Digital Fabrication
This six-month course offers participants hands-on experience with various manufacturing techniques, focusing on the concepts of digital fabrication. Over the span of 20 weeks, learners will engage in weekly projects that will allow them to explore different methods of prototyping and design. The course will be led by Prof. Neil Gershenfeld from MIT, a trailblazer in digital fabrication. By the end of the program, participants will complete a final project that integrates all the skills and techniques learned throughout the course.
Local Impact: Superfablab Kochi
The course will be conducted at KSUM’s Advanced Prototyping Lab, Superfablab Kochi, a hub for innovation and technology in the state. Graduates of the program will be able to participate in Fab Lab Kerala’s maker residency programs, technology fellowships, and community-driven projects. These initiatives are designed to promote innovation and entrepreneurship within Kerala, providing students with opportunities to further their careers in the growing field of digital manufacturing.
Eligibility and Application Process
The Fab Academy course is open to individuals with a strong aptitude for design, a basic understanding of English, and a passion for science and technology. The program seeks applicants who are eager to explore the possibilities of digital fabrication and its real-world applications.
Those selected for the course may be eligible for a foundation scholarship that offers an 80% fee waiver. Additionally, five female applicants will be awarded a 95% fee waiver to encourage gender inclusivity within the STEM field.
The admissions process for the program is based on an interview. Interested candidates can apply online at Fab Academy Kerala. To assist applicants, KSUM is hosting a special AMA (Ask Me Anything) session this Friday, which prospective participants can register for at KSUM AMA Registration.
