BJP State president K. Annamalai has accused the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government of failing to stop the illegal dumping of waste from Kerala into the state’s southern districts. In response, he has announced plans to lead a protest march to Kerala in January if the issue is not resolved.
Allegations of Negligence
Annamalai alleged that Tamil Nadu’s southern districts, including Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli, and Tenkasi, have become dumping grounds for biomedical, plastic, and poultry waste from Kerala. He criticized the DMK government for not taking adequate steps to address the issue and allowing illegal activities to continue unchecked.
He also claimed that border check posts in Tamil Nadu have turned into “collection centres” for waste-laden vehicles coming from Kerala. Despite repeated complaints to officials and even the Chief Minister’s Public Grievances Redressal Cell, Annamalai stated that no action has been taken, suggesting that these activities occur with the government’s knowledge.
Smuggling Concerns Raised
Beyond waste dumping, Annamalai accused the government of neglecting other border issues, such as the illegal smuggling of minerals from Tamil Nadu to Kerala. He said the inaction highlights the DMK government’s failure to safeguard the state’s interests.
Protest Planned for January
Frustrated with the lack of response, Annamalai announced that he would lead a protest march to Kerala in the first week of January. He warned that the protest would involve returning the illegally dumped waste to its source if the Tamil Nadu government does not act immediately.
Call for Accountability
Annamalai’s announcement aims to rally public support and put pressure on the DMK government to take urgent measures. He emphasized that Tamil Nadu’s rights must be protected and its districts should not be turned into dumping grounds.
The protest march reflects Annamalai’s strong stance against illegal waste dumping and his broader demand for government accountability in safeguarding Tamil Nadu’s environment and resources.
