Women philanthropists are making a remarkable impact globally through their substantial contributions. Among these influential figures, MacKenzie Scott stands out. Once recognized as the richest woman in the world, she has donated over ₹119,522 crores and is committed to giving away at least half of her wealth during her lifetime.

Early Life and Career

Born in 1970 in California, MacKenzie Scott Tuttle developed a passion for writing early on, publishing a 142-page book at age six. She later earned her degree in English from Princeton University, where she studied under the esteemed Toni Morrison. Scott began her career at the hedge fund D.E. Shaw, where she met Jeff Bezos. They married in 1993 and later moved to Seattle to launch Amazon.

Philanthropic Journey

MacKenzie Scott’s prominence grew following her divorce from Bezos, after which she received Amazon shares valued at ₹253,600 crores. According to Forbes, her current net worth is ₹302,671 crores. In 2019, she pledged to donate at least half of her wealth throughout her lifetime. Through her platform, Yield Giving, Scott has contributed over ₹119,522 crores to approximately 1,600 nonprofit organisations since 2020.
