The UAE government has reminded private companies to meet Emiratisation targets by December 2024. From January 1, 2025, companies that don’t comply will face heavy fines.
What is Emiratisation?
Emiratisation is a government initiative aimed at increasing the number of Emiratis in the workforce. The policy encourages businesses to hire Emirati nationals, especially for skilled jobs.
Key Requirements for Companies
Private sector businesses with 50 or more employees must increase their Emirati workforce by 2% by the end of 2024. For every Emirati position left unfilled, companies will be fined Dh96,000. Additionally, companies with 20 to 49 employees in certain industries must hire at least one Emirati.
Fines for Non-Compliance
The fines for not meeting the Emiratisation targets are set at Dh96,000 for each unfilled Emirati position. This fine will start being enforced from January 2025.
Why is Emiratisation Important?
The UAE aims to reduce its dependence on foreign workers and promote employment for Emiratis. By increasing Emirati workers in skilled positions, the country hopes to strengthen its economy and provide more opportunities for nationals.
Preparing for the Deadline
With the deadline approaching, businesses are working to recruit more Emiratis. Some are offering training programs to help Emiratis develop skills for skilled positions.
Looking Ahead
As the deadline approaches, companies are urged to meet their Emiratisation goals or face fines. The initiative is part of the UAE’s broader strategy to boost national employment and reduce reliance on foreign labor.
