The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) announced a two-month extension for the UAE visa amnesty program, allowing residents to regularise their visa status without penalties until December 31, 2024. Initially set to end on October 31, the program, which began on September 1, has already provided thousands of residents with an opportunity to avoid fines.
Aligning with UAE’s 53rd Union Day
The extension comes as the UAE prepares to celebrate its 53rd Union Day. ICP Director General Maj-Gen Suhail Saeed Al Khaili explained that the extension is part of the UAE’s commitment to humanitarian and civil values, responding to those wishing to either leave the country or secure employment and legalise their stay.
Final Opportunity for Visa Violators
Al Khaili emphasised that this extension marks a final opportunity for overstayers to regularise their status without penalties or re-entry bans. The ICP hopes the extension will encourage violators to take advantage of lenient measures, offering a chance to overcome personal challenges and secure stability for their families.
High Demand for Amnesty Program
According to Al Khaili, there was a significant increase in applicants nearing the original deadline. He cautioned that fines will resume for those who continue to overstay after the amnesty period ends, and ICP plans to intensify inspections and enforcement measures.
Previous Amnesty Programs
This marks the fourth amnesty initiative since 2007. Similar programs, including one in 2018, have offered residents a chance to legalise their status or leave the country without penalties. Residents looking to benefit from this program can apply at ICP centres, approved typing centres, or online.
