Karan Johar's Ventures and Investments

Karan Johar, a prominent name in the Indian film industry, has recently made headlines by selling a 50% stake in his production company, Dharma Productions, to billionaire Adar Poonawalla, the CEO of Serum Institute of India. Founded by Karan’s father, Yash Johar, in 1976, Dharma Productions has been behind many iconic films, including Kal Ho Naa Ho and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. This strategic move has elevated the company’s valuation to Rs 2,000 crore, with Karan retaining the remaining 50% ownership.

According to the 2024 Hurun India Rich List, Karan Johar has a net worth of Rs 1,400 crore. In addition to his work in cinema, Karan has expanded his investments into multiple sectors including hospitality and fashion. Here’s a breakdown of the brands and companies he owns or has invested in.

1. Dharma Productions

Karan took over Dharma Productions in 2004 after his father passed away. Under his leadership, the company has produced numerous hits like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania.

2. Dharma 2.0

In 2016, Karan launched Dharma 2.0, a subsidiary of Dharma Productions focused on producing advertisements and commercials.

3. Dharmatic Entertainment

Two years later, in 2018, Karan founded Dharmatic Entertainment, which focuses on creating digital content for online streaming platforms.

4. Dharma Cornerstone Agency

In 2020, Karan teamed up with Bunty Sajdeh to launch a talent management company, Dharma Cornerstone Agency. The agency manages top Bollywood actors like Sara Ali Khan, Ananya Panday, and Janhvi Kapoor.

5. Tyaani Jewellery

Karan ventured into fashion by launching his jewellery brand, Tyaani, in 2021. The brand specializes in 22-carat gold polki jewellery, with multiple outlets in Mumbai.

6. Neuma Restaurant

In 2022, Karan entered the hospitality sector by opening a fine-dining restaurant named Neuma in Mumbai, which offers a unique European menu.

7. Nothing

In 2021, Karan invested in Nothing, a tech startup based in London. Other prominent investors include cricketer Yuvraj Singh and designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee.

8. Kofluence

In 2022, Karan expanded his portfolio by investing in Kofluence, an influencer marketing platform. The investment round was led by Nikhil Kamath, co-founder of Zerodha.

9. Fashion Entrepreneur Fund

This year, Karan Johar joined Gaurav Dalmia to invest in the Fashion Entrepreneur Fund. The fund provides financial support and mentorship to emerging fashion entrepreneurs.

Karan Johar’s business ventures extend well beyond the film industry, highlighting his ability to diversify his portfolio while maintaining his stronghold in entertainment.
