A viral Instagram video showcasing a street vendor from Surat, Gujarat, preparing a dish called “Cheese Anguri” has sparked a debate about excessive cheese consumption. The video, shared by @foodie_incarnate, features the vendor loading large amounts of cheese into the dish, raising concerns over the health risks associated with such indulgence.

A Dish Overflowing with Cheese
In the video, the vendor is seen chopping large blocks of Amul processed cheese into cubes, then adding more shredded cheese over a rich butter and cream gravy. The sheer volume of cheese used has many questioning if this dish is crossing the line from indulgent to unhealthy. The dish has certainly caught the internet’s attention, racking up over 17 million views and 166,758 likes.

How Much Cheese Is Too Much?
The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned against excessive cheese consumption due to its high levels of sodium, saturated fat, and calories. The WHO recommends limiting daily salt intake to less than 5 grams, but cheeses, especially processed ones like those used in “Cheese Anguri,” can be quite high in sodium.

Health Risks of Overindulging in Cheese
Eating too much cheese can lead to a range of health issues:

  • High Saturated Fat: Cheese contains saturated fats that can raise cholesterol levels, increasing the risk of heart disease.
  • Weight Gain: Cheese is calorie-dense, and excessive intake without sufficient physical activity can lead to weight gain.
  • Digestive Issues: People with lactose intolerance may experience bloating, gas, and discomfort from consuming large amounts of cheese.
  • High Blood Pressure: Many cheeses contain high sodium levels, which can contribute to high blood pressure and other cardiovascular problems.

Netizens Share Mixed Reactions
The viral video has sparked thousands of comments, with opinions divided. Some users were concerned about the health impacts, asking, “What will happen to our bodies if we consume this amount of cheese in a day?” Others were more critical, with one commenting, “I thought street food was about balance, not just piling on cheese.”

While some enjoyed the spectacle of a cheese-laden dish, others are questioning whether such trends reflect healthy eating habits or promote overindulgence. The debate over “Cheese Anguri” highlights the growing concerns about excessive cheese in street food and its potential health effects.
