A new app unveiled at Gitex Global 2024 aims to streamline the arrival process for visitors to the UAE by allowing them to register their data before arriving. This advancement will enable travellers to bypass long immigration lines and access smart gates instead. Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director-General of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP), emphasised that this app eliminates the need for in-person registration upon arrival, significantly enhancing the travel experience.
This initiative supports the UAE’s commitment to digital transformation, making travel easier for tourists by reducing bureaucratic processes and implementing innovative solutions. Additionally, the ICP is piloting the Smart Travel project at Zayed International Airport, which captures travellers’ biometric data seamlessly. This system utilises facial recognition technology to identify passengers without requiring a passport or boarding pass at any checkpoint.
