A recent viral post on social media claims that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has suspended the Know Your Customer (KYC) process for its SIM cards as directed by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The post further warns that the SIM card will be blocked within 24 hours. However, this claim has been found to be false by Channeliam Fact Check.
Fact-checkers have thoroughly investigated this information and found no credible evidence to support the claim. Initial keyword searches led us to a post by PIB Fact Check on X (formerly Twitter), which clarified that the notice circulating online was indeed fake. BSNL does not send out such notifications regarding KYC suspension.
In a tweet, PIB Fact Check stated, “Beware! This notice is #Fake. @BSNLCorporate never sends any such notices.” The fact-checking agency confirmed that users should disregard any messages claiming that KYC has been suspended and should not share personal or banking information in response to such notices.
Additionally, a previous public notice from BSNL, posted on PIB’s website in 2021, addressed similar fraudulent messages. BSNL urged customers to ignore any misleading communication and emphasised that it does not endorse or send out such notices.
In conclusion, the claims about BSNL suspending SIM KYC processes and impending blocks are entirely false. Channeliam Fact Check has verified this information, advising customers to remain cautious and verify information through credible sources.
