The introduction of the Vande Bharat Express trains has revolutionised rail travel in India, and now, the third variant, the Vande Sleeper, is set to launch in January 2025. This new train, manufactured by BEML, will facilitate longer journeys, making overnight travel more comfortable and efficient. The prototype was unveiled by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in September 2024, marking a significant step forward for Indian Railways.

New Routes for Vande Sleeper

The Indian Railways is proposing to introduce the Vande Bharat Sleeper in Jammu and Kashmir. This route will connect New Delhi to Srinagar, managed by the Northern Railway (NR) zone. According to a senior railway official, “The train will connect the national capital with the capital of Jammu and Kashmir,” with plans to eventually extend the service to Baramulla.

Travel Details: Distance and Time

The New Delhi-Srinagar Vande Bharat Sleeper will cover over 800 km in less than 13 hours. This train is part of the USBRL project, which is being completed on a mission basis, ensuring efficient connectivity across the region.

Schedule and Stops

The train is expected to depart New Delhi at 19:00 hrs and arrive in Srinagar by 08:00 hrs. Along the route, it will make limited stops at major stations such as Ambala Cantt Junction, Ludhiana Junction, Kathua, Jammu Tawai, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Sangaldan, and Banihal.

Ticket Pricing and Accommodation Options

The New Delhi-Srinagar Vande Bharat Sleeper will offer three accommodation types: AC 3 Tier (3A), AC 2 Tier (2A), and AC First Class (1A). Ticket prices are anticipated to be approximately Rs 2000 for 3A, Rs 2500 for 2A, and Rs 3000 for 1A, making this a competitive option for travellers.

Vande Bharat Sleeper train represents a significant advancement in Indian rail travel, offering comfort, speed, and connectivity across key routes. With its introduction, passengers can look forward to an enhanced travel experience across the beautiful landscapes of Jammu and Kashmir.
