Tata Group, one of India’s largest conglomerates, has taken a significant step by partnering with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) to build India’s first semiconductor manufacturing plant. This facility will be established in Dholera, Gujarat, through Tata Electronics, with a massive investment of up to Rs 91,000 crore (USD 11 billion).

PSMC to Provide Key Technology Support

PSMC will support the design and construction of Tata Electronics’ chip manufacturing unit, providing essential technology and engineering expertise. The Dholera fab will be an AI-enabled, greenfield project aimed at boosting India’s presence in the global semiconductor market.

Expanding India’s Semiconductor Capabilities

Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran stated that this partnership would accelerate the group’s plans to pioneer semiconductor manufacturing in India. The plant will have the capacity to produce up to 50,000 wafers per month, positioning Tata Electronics as a key player in the semiconductor industry.

Job Creation and Economic Impact

The multi-fab vision for Dholera is expected to generate over 100,000 skilled jobs, marking a major boost for India’s tech manufacturing sector. This project further solidifies Tata Group’s role in India’s technological advancements.
