Zomato has teamed up with the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to enhance the travel experience by delivering food directly to passengers’ seats on trains. This new service, which has been launched in 88 cities, aims to provide passengers with a variety of meal options from their favourite restaurants while travelling.
Over 10 Lakh Orders Delivered Across 100+ Stations
The new service, known as ‘Zomato – Food Delivery in Trains,’ has already seen significant success, delivering over 10 lakh orders at more than 100 railway stations. Passengers can now order meals through the Zomato app and receive them directly at their seat or coach at designated stations. This initiative promises to improve the quality of food available during train journeys by offering a diverse range of choices that go beyond traditional railway food options.
Convenience for Passengers and Station Visitors
In addition to serving passengers on trains, the service is also available to those waiting at railway stations. Visitors can order food from the Zomato app while at the station and have it delivered without leaving the premises. This feature ensures that anyone at the station can enjoy high-quality meals from their favourite restaurants.
Expansion and Success of the Service
Initially launched as a pilot in 2023 at five major stations, the service quickly expanded due to positive feedback and high demand. It is now operational at over 100 railway stations across India, including major locations such as Delhi, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Goa, Bhopal, and Surat.
Impact on Train Travel Experience
Zomato’s collaboration with IRCTC marks a significant shift in train travel food services, replacing the need for local vendors and limited station options with fresh, high-quality restaurant meals delivered straight to passengers’ seats. This innovative service not only enhances convenience but also improves the overall travel experience by offering a variety of cuisines and eliminating the hassle of finding quality food during train journeys.
