The government has launched a centralised platform aimed at uniting India’s fragmented startup ecosystem. Called the Bharat Startup Knowledge Access Registry (BHASKAR), this initiative seeks to foster collaboration among startups, investors, mentors, and government bodies. What is BHASKAR?
The BHASKAR portal, introduced under the StartUp India program by the Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, is a digital space designed to streamline interactions and promote innovation within India’s startup ecosystem. The platform brings together stakeholders like startups, investors, service providers, and mentors to collaborate and share knowledge.

- Personalised BHASKAR ID Each user is assigned a unique ID, which helps tailor their experience with personalized dashboards, providing them with access to relevant tools and collaborators.
- Comprehensive Resource Access BHASKAR acts as a repository for essential resources, from startup fundamentals to expert mentorship, guiding entrepreneurs throughout their journey from ideation to execution.
- Cross-Border Collaboration The portal is designed to improve India’s reputation globally as a hub for innovation, enabling easier engagement for international investors and startups.
- Inclusion of Incubators and Policymakers Startups will have access to incubators and policymakers, creating an inclusive innovation environment.
Current Ecosystem and Future Plans
India’s startup ecosystem is rapidly growing, with over 1.4 lakh startups recognized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). However, resource fragmentation remains a significant challenge. The launch of BHASKAR aims to address this issue.
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, during the launch event, announced plans for BHASKAR 2.0, which will feature enhanced capabilities. Additionally, he proposed the creation of an “indigenous Silicon Valley” with dedicated startup townships spread across 25-500 acres. This development, spearheaded by the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC), will span across various states like Bihar, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh.
