Indian Railways has officially renamed the ‘Vande Metro’ service to ‘Namo Bharat Rapid Rail,’ effective September 16. This announcement comes just ahead of the train’s debut, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to inaugurate the service along with several other Vande Bharat trains during his visit to Gujarat.

Inaugural Journey and Regular Service

The inaugural journey of the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail will start from Bhuj and travel to Ahmedabad, covering a distance of 359 kilometres in just 5 hours and 45 minutes. The regular passenger service began on September 17, with a ticket price of Rs 455 for the entire journey, offering an economical option for commuters.

Train Features and Route

The Namo Bharat Rapid Rail will operate at a maximum speed of 110 km/h and will make stops at various stations including Anjar, Gandhidham, Bhachau, Samakhiali, Halvad, Dhrangadhra, Viramgam, Chandlodiya, Sabarmati, and Kalupur (Ahmedabad station). The train will accommodate up to 2,058 standing passengers and 1,150 seated passengers, with cushioned sofas and air-conditioned coaches for added comfort.

Redefining Metro Travel

The launch of the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail marks a shift in the concept of metro travel. Unlike traditional metro systems that operate within urban areas, this service will connect inter-city destinations, linking urban centers with nearby regions. It features automatic sliding doors and engines at both ends, more akin to suburban metro trains rather than the Vande Bharat Express. Additionally, it will operate on an unreserved basis, allowing passengers to purchase tickets shortly before departure.

With these advancements, the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail aims to enhance connectivity and convenience for travelers across Gujarat.
