Amanpreet Singh, who pursued BTech in Electrical Engineering at Rajasthan Technical University, transformed his passion for dairy into a groundbreaking startup, Gau Organics. After gaining experience in dairy science and automation from prestigious institutions and cooperatives, he launched Gau Organics in 2015 with the goal of revolutionizing dairy farming and aiding local farmers.
Early Challenges and Growth
Initially, Amanpreet faced challenges securing loans and establishing a market presence. Despite these hurdles, Gau Organics began with a 50-acre land in Kota, focusing on ethical farmer partnerships and value-added crops. The startup saw significant progress by 2017 with a retail store and leveraged digital platforms during the COVID-19 pandemic, enhancing its reach and profitability.
Harnessing Cow Dung for Energy
Innovation marked a significant milestone for Gau Organics when Amanpreet and his team developed a biogas generator powered by cow dung. This generator, producing methane from organic waste, not only supports farm operations but also reduces electricity costs by Rs 2.5-3 lakh monthly. Initially costing Rs 66 lakh, the generator’s production cost has been reduced to Rs 27 lakh through strategic improvements.
Scaling Up and Future Plans
Gau Organics has expanded from a small team to over 60 members and now serves around 4,500 customers daily. The startup’s flagship product,
Gir Cow Ghee, has seen cost reductions from Rs 3,800 in 2017 to Rs 2,700 in 2024. Recognized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gau Organics remains self-funded and plans to explore franchising and large-scale biogas innovations in the coming years.
