Established in 2018, Sattuz is a Madhubani-based startup specializing in health-conscious consumables made from the nutritional superfood sattu. Founded by Sachin Kumar, a Sales and Marketing MBA who left a high-paying business development manager position in Mumbai, Sattuz aims to popularize sattu through innovative packaging and marketing.
Recognizing the underexplored potential of sattu, a traditional ingredient in Madhubani, Sachin decided to introduce ready-to-mix sattu beverages and stuffing mixtures. His journey began with thorough market research, which revealed a demand for a hygienic and convenient sattu drink. Addressing hygiene concerns at roadside stalls in Bihar and catering to the urban demand for nutritious options, Sattuz emerged with a unique product format. Utilizing his mother’s recipe, Sachin launched sattu sachets ensuring freshness for six months.
Sattuz offers ready-to-mix sattu drinks in various flavors, including sweet, jal-jeera, and chocolate. These drinks are not only rich in protein and provide instant energy but also have high fiber and iron content, contributing to digestive health and making them a vegan-friendly option.
In October 2019, Sattuz secured funding from the Indian Angel Network and other investors, propelling its growth. The startup expanded its product line to include shakers for convenient on-the-go preparation. After an appearance on Shark Tank India in December 2021, Sattuz introduced additional products such as sattu paratha and sattu litti, leading to the launch of Sattuz Café in 2022.
Sattuz’s diverse offerings, including ready-to-cook sattu stuffing for paratha, puri, or litti, are available both offline and online through platforms like Amazon and Flipkart. According to 30Stades, the startup reported a revenue of Rs 1.2 crore in FY23 and aims to reach around Rs 2 crore by the end of FY24.
Recognizing the vital support of a nurturing startup ecosystem, Sattuz is setting up a 5,000 sq ft factory in Fatuha town on the outskirts of Patna. This new facility is expected to further enhance their production capabilities and support the growing demand for their innovative, health-conscious products.
