The Sultanate of Oman has announced a free 10-day visit visa for passengers and crew members of cruise ships entering the country. This initiative is expected to attract more visitors and boost the tourism sector.

New Regulations for Cruise Passengers

The new regulations were outlined in Decision No. 132/2024, issued by Lieutenant General Hassan bin Mohsen Al Shuraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs. The decision amends certain parts of the Executive Regulations of the Foreigners’ Residence Law.

Under these changes, cruise ship passengers and crew members can receive a 10-day visa for tourism purposes. The visa is issued upon the request of the tourist ship agent, with entry into Oman required within 30 days of visa issuance. Additionally, a one-month visa option is available under similar conditions, offering more flexibility to tourists.

Key Amendments to the Law

The new amendments include updates to the visa issuance process:

  • 10-day visa: Granted upon request by the tourist ship agent, allowing passengers and crew to stay in Oman for up to 10 days. Entry must be completed within 30 days of the visa’s approval.
  • One-month visa: A longer stay option, also granted upon request, allowing tourists to remain in Oman for up to 30 days.

Promoting Tourism Growth

The decision to offer a free 10-day visa is seen as a strategic step in enhancing Oman’s appeal as a tourist destination, particularly for cruise passengers. This policy aims to streamline the entry process and encourage more visitors to explore the country.

With these changes, Oman hopes to position itself as a more accessible and attractive destination for international tourists, further boosting its tourism industry.
