The C295 program, a collaborative effort between Airbus and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), marks a significant achievement for India’s aerospace sector. Under this partnership, Airbus will deliver the first 16 aircraft in a “fly-away” condition from its assembly line in Seville, Spain. The remaining 40 C295s will be manufactured and assembled in India, showcasing the country’s expanding capabilities in aerospace production.

Upcoming Operational Timeline

A new factory in Vadodara, Gujarat, is on track to become operational by late November or early December. Construction of the facility, which began in October 2022, will enable TASL to produce up to eight C295 aircraft annually once fully operational.

Production and Delivery Plans

India is set to deliver its first domestically assembled C295 in 2026. This development is a crucial step toward achieving the nation’s goal of self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

Role and Impact of the C295

The C295 is a versatile military transport aircraft designed to replace the Indian Air Force’s ageing AVRO fleet. It is expected to play a key role in various operations, including troop transport, cargo delivery, and search and rescue missions.

Commitment to ‘Make in India’

The successful activation of the C295 assembly line underscores India’s commitment to the ‘Make in India’ initiative and its potential to become a major player in global aerospace manufacturing.
