In 2020, Rimi purchased a luxury car for ₹92 lakh from Satish Motors Pvt. Ltd., an authorised dealer for Jaguar Land Rover. The vehicle came with a warranty valid until January 2023. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting lockdowns, the car was not frequently used.

Defects and Frustrations

Once Rimi began using the car more regularly, she encountered several issues, including a noisy sunroof, screen lags, a faulty sound system, and problems with the rear-end camera. These defects caused her significant frustration and disappointment, leading her to accuse the company of negligence and emotional distress.

Incident and Dealer Response

According to Rimi, a malfunctioning rear-end camera caused her car to collide with a pillar on August 25, 2022. When she reported the issues, the dealers allegedly dismissed her concerns, demanding evidence before addressing the problems. This dismissive attitude led to a continuous cycle of repairs, further aggravating her situation.

Legal Action and Compensation Demands

Feeling that the car was defective in both manufacturing and maintenance, Rimi has taken legal action. She is demanding ₹50 crore in compensation for the mental harassment and inconvenience she has endured, along with an additional ₹10 lakh to cover legal expenses. Furthermore, she is seeking a replacement for the defective car. Rimi is a well-known actor in Bengali cinema, recognized for her roles in films like “Sajani” and “Swapner Din.”
