Jay Shah, the newly elected Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), is a prominent figure in global cricket governance. Currently, as the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Shah does not receive a regular salary. Instead, his compensation comes in the form of allowances and reimbursements. For international cricket meetings or tours, Shah earns approximately Rs 84,000 per day. For meetings within India, he receives Rs 40,000 daily. Additionally, he is entitled to Rs 30,000 per day for work-related trips within India that do not involve formal meetings. The BCCI also covers his domestic and international accommodations, often booking luxury hotel suites for his stays.

Shah’s transition to ICC Chairman will not significantly alter his compensation structure. Similar to his role at the BCCI, the ICC does not offer a fixed salary to its high-ranking officials. Instead, they receive various allowances and benefits related to their responsibilities, ensuring they can focus on advancing cricket’s global interests without financial concerns.

Jay Shah: Early Life and Career

Born on September 22, 1988, Jay Shah hails from Gujarat, India. He completed his schooling locally before earning a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree from Nirma University in Ahmedabad. His academic background provided him with a strong foundation in analytical skills and discipline, which has been pivotal in his cricket administration career. Jay Shah is married to Rishita Patel, and the couple has two daughters.

Shah’s cricket administration journey began in 2009 when he became an Executive Board Member of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA). By 2013, he had advanced to the role of Joint Secretary at the GCA, where he played a key role in the development of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. His innovative approach and focus on infrastructure development were significant achievements during his tenure.

In 2015, Shah joined the finance and marketing committees of the BCCI, laying the groundwork for strategic planning and revenue generation. His leadership skills were recognized when he was elected as the youngest Secretary of the BCCI in 2019. Under his leadership, the Indian Premier League (IPL) reached new heights, solidifying its position as the most lucrative cricket league globally.

Net Worth and Business Ventures

Beyond his cricket administration roles, Jay Shah has a net worth of Rs 124 crore, reflecting his earnings from cricket-related positions and various business ventures. He serves as a director at Temple Enterprise and holds a majority stake in Kusum Finserve. His entrepreneurial ventures showcase his ability to navigate both corporate and sports domains effectively.

Family and Personal Life

Jay Shah’s personal life is deeply rooted in family values. Born into a family where public service is highly valued, he draws inspiration from his father, Amit Shah, a notable Indian politician associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Shah’s marriage to Rishita Patel in February 2015 was a significant event, attended by prominent figures such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The couple’s strong connections within Gujarat’s socio-political landscape highlight their influential position in the region.
