The export of Zari embroidery from India has seen remarkable growth, highlighting its contribution to the ‘Made in India’ campaign. Between March 2023 and February 2024, India exported 309 shipments of Zari embroidery, marking a 39% increase compared to the previous year. This surge in exports demonstrates the global appeal and demand for Indian craftsmanship.

Significant Monthly Increase

In February 2024 alone, India made 54 Zari embroidery shipments, showcasing a 93% year-on-year growth from February 2023 and a 145% sequential growth from January 2024. This substantial increase underlines the rising popularity of Indian Zari products in international markets.

Key Export Destinations

The primary destinations for Indian Zari exports include the United States, New Zealand, and Canada. These countries have consistently shown strong demand for Zari embroidery, supporting the growth of this traditional Indian craft on a global scale.

India’s Leading Position in Zari Exports

India continues to lead the global Zari embroidery market, with 3,789 shipments, far surpassing other major exporters like France and China. This dominance reflects the rich heritage and unmatched quality of Indian Zari craftsmanship.

Regional Production Hubs

The production of Zari goods in India is concentrated in regions known for their skilled artisans and specialised products. Key centres include Agra, Varanasi, Bhopal, Surat, and Lucknow. These areas produce a variety of Zari products, from evening wear and fashion accessories to home furnishings, all of which are highly sought after in international markets.

Global Demand for Indian Zari Products

Indian Zari products cater to diverse markets worldwide. The United States, United Kingdom, UAE, Italy, Germany, and Japan are among the top importers of Zari goods, ranging from Christmas decorations and fashion accessories to home textiles. The continued demand from these countries highlights the global appreciation for Indian-made Zari products.

Supporting the ‘Made in India’ Campaign

The thriving export of Zari embroidery not only supports the ‘Made in India’ campaign but also strengthens India’s position as a leader in traditional craftsmanship. The increasing global demand for these products showcases India’s ability to blend heritage with modern market needs, contributing to the nation’s economic growth and cultural preservation.
