Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the completion of 20 air-conditioned rest areas for delivery riders in key locations across the emirate. These rest areas are designed to provide comfort and convenience to delivery drivers as they wait for new orders.
Features and Amenities
Each rest area is equipped with air conditioning to offer a comfortable environment. Riders can access snack vending machines, water dispensers, and mobile phone charging stations. Depending on the location, each rest area can accommodate up to 10 people and includes designated motorcycle parking spaces nearby.
Strategic Distribution
The 40 planned air-conditioned rest areas will be strategically placed in high-demand areas such as Hessa Street, Al Barsha Heights, Al Barsha, and Jumeirah. Other locations include Dubai Marina, Business Bay, and the Dubai World Trade Centre.
Safety and Traffic Management
Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the RTA, highlighted that the initiative is part of Dubai’s broader goal to enhance traffic safety and support the “Zero Fatalities” vision of the Dubai Traffic Safety Strategy. The aim is to improve traffic safety and meet the growing demands of the delivery sector.
Growth in Delivery Services
The expansion of rest areas reflects the rapid growth in Dubai’s delivery sector, with 2,535 delivery service companies operating 40,088 delivery bikes as of June 2024. The RTA’s new facilities address the increased need for support and infrastructure for delivery riders.
