At the Sankalp 2024 event, Ola Electric unveiled its new range of electric motorcycles, marking its entry into the electric motorcycle market. The new models include the Roadster, Roadster X, and Roadster Pro, reflecting Ola’s commitment to advancing electric vehicle (EV) technology.
Ambitious Goals for India’s EV Market
Ola Electric aims to position India as a global leader in EVs and new energy. Bhavish Aggarwal, Founder and CMD of Ola Electric, emphasised the significant potential of the motorcycle segment, which makes up two-thirds of India’s two-wheeler market. Ola’s new motorcycle lineup is expected to boost EV adoption and contribute to mass EV penetration across the country.
Roadster X: Performance and Features
The Roadster X stands out with a peak motor output of 11 kW, making it the fastest electric motorcycle in its category. It accelerates from 0-40 kmph in just 2.8 seconds, with a top speed of 124 kmph and a range of 200 km. The model includes advanced features such as a Combi Braking System (CBS) and multiple riding modes.
Roadster: Commuter-Focused Innovation
Targeted at commuters, the Roadster is powered by a 13 kW motor, accelerating from 0-40 kmph in 2 seconds. It has a top speed of 126 kmph and a range of 248 km. Key features include a 6.8-inch TFT touchscreen, proximity unlock, and AI-powered functionalities.
Roadster Pro: High Performance and Range
The Roadster Pro offers peak power output of 52 kW and 105 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0-40 kmph in 1.2 seconds and reaching a top speed of 194 kmph. It features a 16 kWh battery with a 579 km range, a 10-inch TFT touchscreen, USD forks, and advanced safety features like two-channel switchable ABS.
Introduction of Bharat 4680 Cells
Starting in Q1 FY26, Ola Electric will integrate its new Bharat 4680 cells into its EVs. These cells, currently being trialled at Ola’s Gigafactory, promise higher energy density and faster charging, marking a significant advancement in battery technology.
Gen-3 Platform: Future-Proofing EVs
Ola’s Gen-3 platform was introduced as the basis for future electric vehicles. Designed to improve scalability, performance, and cost efficiency, this platform will support Ola’s ongoing innovation in the EV space.
MoveOS 5 Updates
The new MoveOS 5 includes features such as Group Navigation, Live Location Sharing, and Road Trip Mode. Performance enhancements like Smart Charging and TPMS alerts will also be available in the beta version, set to launch by Diwali via an OTA update.
