The Government of India has introduced the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF), a prestigious program designed to support and inspire students pursuing Ph.D. degrees in Science and Technology fields. This fellowship offers significant financial aid and motivation for eligible candidates.
Eligibility Criteria:
Students who can apply for the PMRF include:
- Final-year students of 4/5-year undergraduate programs, 5-year integrated M.Tech programs, 2-year M.Sc programs, or 5-year dual degree programs in Science and Technology from IISc, IITs, NITs, IISERs, IIEST, and centrally funded IIITs.
- Candidates must have a minimum CGPA/CPI of 8.0 on a 10-point scale.
- Students who have qualified GATE or completed M.Tech/MS with a minimum CGPA of 8.0 after the first year are also eligible.
Fellowship Benefits:
The PMRF offers a substantial fellowship to selected students:
- INR 70,000 per month for the first two years.
- INR 75,000 per month in the third year.
- INR 80,000 per month in the fourth and fifth years.
- Additionally, a research grant of INR 2 lakh per year is provided for five years, totaling INR 10 lakh.
Application Process:
There is no direct application portal for the PMRF. Interested students need to follow these steps:
1. Apply for a Ph.D. Program: Candidates must apply for a regular doctoral program at an institution offering PMRF fellowships, such as IISc, IITs, etc. Admission to the Ph.D. program is essential for consideration.
2. Selection Process: After being selected for the Ph.D. program, the institution will nominate eligible candidates for the PMRF.
3. Expert Panel Review: A panel of experts will review the nominations and decide on the fellowship awards.
Important Points:
- There is no quota reservation for PMRF 2024.
- Selection is based on merit and a rigorous evaluation process.
