Sofia Sacoor, a 17-year-old entrepreneur from Dubai, is making waves in the fashion industry while supporting a cause close to her heart. As a member of the renowned Sacoor family, known for their premium fashion brand Sacoor Brothers, Sofia is now paving her own path with her athleisure brand, SU1.
The Birth of SU1
SU1, which stands for “Step Up One,” was created by Sacoor to blend her passion for fashion and sports with a mission to support children with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). The idea for the brand was born from her personal experience with T1D and a desire to make a difference. Sofia Sacoor was inspired by stories of individuals struggling to afford insulin and medical devices during the COVID-19 pandemic. “I could have easily been in their position,” she reflects.
Mission and Impact
SU1 aims to create “A Ripple of Smiles” by donating a portion of its proceeds to support children with T1D. The brand has already partnered with several organisations, including Dubai’s Al Jalila Foundation. SU1 offers stylish yet affordable athleisure wear, with a commitment to eco-friendly materials in every aspect of its operations.
Overcoming Challenges
Running a successful business at 17 comes with its challenges. Sofia Sacoor admits that being taken seriously because of her age is a significant hurdle. Despite this, she has adapted quickly, which she believes is crucial to her success. Her experience managing T1D parallels her business journey, teaching her valuable skills in organisation and efficiency.
Inspiring Others
Sofia Sacoor hopes to inspire other young people, especially those with chronic health conditions, to pursue their dreams. She believes that with willpower and determination, any challenge can be overcome. Her journey from a high school student to a successful entrepreneur has been marked by learning and growth, and she is committed to expanding SU1’s impact.
Looking Ahead
Sofia Sacoor’s future plans for SU1 include expanding the brand’s reach globally, aiming to assist as many children with T1D as possible. She credits her family’s support for her success, emphasising that Type 1 Diabetes is a family challenge, not just her own. Sacoor’s dedication to SU1 reflects her commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children worldwide.
