The rapid evolution of technology is opening up endless possibilities in the field of engineering. Emerging technologies like robotics, IoT, artificial intelligence, data science, and blockchain are reshaping the landscape. In response to these changes, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (APJKTU) is overhauling its B.Tech curriculum to better prepare students for the future.
Modernising the B.Tech Curriculum
With the aim of keeping pace with the swift changes in technology, APJKTU is implementing a comprehensive reform in its B.Tech curriculum. This initiative is designed to equip students not only with the skills needed to excel in their careers but also with the entrepreneurial mindset required to thrive in a dynamic environment.
Startup Bootcamp: A Step Towards Entrepreneurship
To support this curricular update, the university recently organised a three-day startup bootcamp at the Kochi Maker Village. This event, hosted by the newly established startup cell at the university, aimed to provide engineering students with crucial entrepreneurial skills and resources.
Bootcamp Highlights
The startup bootcamp offered mentoring, entrepreneurship training, networking opportunities, group panel discussions, idea pitching, and interactions with industry experts. The goal was to prepare students to excel in both academic and startup environments, fostering a strong sense of entrepreneurship among participants.
Participation and Sessions
Sixty-five selected students from various engineering colleges in Kerala attended the bootcamp. The sessions, led by experts such as Ajay Basil Varghese, Bergin S. Russell, and Jis George, focused on hands-on learning and networking with startup founders.
On the second day, notable speakers included Najeeb Bin Haneef O, founder and CEO, Zaara biotech Pvt. Ltd, Thajudeen Aboobaker, CEO of Urban Trash Pvt Ltd, and startup mentors Dr. C. Prem Shankar and K. M. Dhanraj. Their sessions provided valuable insights and practical knowledge for aspiring entrepreneurs.
University’s Vision for Entrepreneurship
APJKTU’s new B.Tech curriculum aims to foster entrepreneurship among students. By integrating entrepreneurial training into the educational framework, the university hopes to provide students with a clear direction and the necessary tools to innovate and lead in their respective fields. Dr. G. Venugopal, Vice Chairman of the startup cell, highlighted that the university will also offer incubation opportunities through its startup cell for students eager to develop new ideas.
The university’s efforts to blend technical education with entrepreneurial skills through initiatives like the startup bootcamp signify a proactive approach to preparing students for a rapidly changing technological landscape.
