Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the completion of a new 4-kilometre dedicated and shared track for bicycles and e-scooters in Hatta. This development is part of a broader initiative to enhance transportation options in the region.
Expansion of Infrastructure
As part of this project, two rest areas have been constructed along the new tracks, increasing the total length of cycling routes in Hatta by 50% to 13.5 kilometres. Additionally, a 2.2-kilometre walking track has been completed alongside the cycling routes.
Track Connectivity
The new cycling track begins at the Hatta Community Centre, crosses the existing pedestrian bridge at Leem Lake, and connects with the established track in Wadi Hatta Park. It also links to the Hatta Guest House area and connects with the existing track at Hatta Police Roundabout, extending to Hatta Sports Club and branching out to shared tracks in the Almasiaf area near Al-Salmi.
Integrated Transport Objectives
Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency at RTA, stated, “The overall objective is to provide integrated transport elements such as cycling tracks, pedestrian crossings, rest areas, shaded paths, landscaping, and parking areas for rented private vehicles and bike racks.”
Parking and Road Upgrades
Furthermore, a new parking lot at Wadi Leem Lake, which accommodates 135 vehicles, has been completed. The gravel road connecting the parking lot to the main street has also been upgraded to improve access. To ensure the safety of road users in Hatta, traffic and directional signs have been installed around the entrances of Leem Lake and various locations.
Enhancements to Traffic Flow
Recently, the RTA also completed the construction of the Hatta Souq Roundabout on Dubai-Hatta Road, facilitating smooth vehicle entry and exit from the Souq, which is expected to reduce travel distance by 60%. Additionally, a U-turn on Dubai-Hatta Road near Wadi Hub was constructed to enhance vehicle access to tourist attractions and vital sites, further improving traffic safety in Hatta.
