Indian Railways Sets Ambitious Plan to Manufacture 10,000 Coaches, Including Record Number of General Category Coaches
Indian Railways officials have revealed their ambitious manufacturing plans for the fiscal years 2024-25 and 2025-26, aiming to finalize around 10,000 coaches, with an impressive tally of over 5300 coaches designated for the general category.
In the upcoming fiscal year 2024-25, Indian Railways intends to produce a variety of coaches, including 2605 General coaches, 1470 non-AC Sleeper coaches, 323 SLR coaches, 32 High Capacity Parcel Vans, and 55 pantry cars. Notably, this production lineup includes the innovative Amrit Bharat train, featuring LHB push-pull technology with non-air-conditioned coaches. The train boasts enhanced passenger amenities such as well-designed seats, improved luggage racks, mobile charging points with holders, LED lighting, CCTV surveillance, and public information systems.
Looking ahead to the fiscal year 2025-26, Indian Railways plans to manufacture 2710 General coaches, 1910 Non-AC Sleeper coaches, 514 SLR coaches, 200 high-capacity parcel vans, and 110 pantry cars. This strategic production roadmap aligns with the dynamic demand for rail services, influenced by seasonal fluctuations and passenger traffic growth, as highlighted by Indian Railways in a recent statement. The annual Coach Production Programme is tailored to meet these evolving demands, ensuring a balanced production of coaches to cater to the needs of passengers effectively.
